The Chiba Monorail is an after SAFEGE built system monorail system in the Japanese city of Chiba . By the company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries built railway was taken in March 1988 in operation. In 1999 a branch line was added to the original line. It has a length of 15.2 kilometers and is currently the longest suspension railway in the world. An expansion of the network to 40 kilometers is planned.
Route
The railway operates two lines. The main route, line 2, includes 15 stops. The branch line, Line 1, has six stops. Both lines travel the route between Chiba-Minato and Chiba city center and touch at three common stops. The next extension is planned on the 3.2 kilometer long line 1, it is to be extended by 3.6 kilometers. At present, as of 2003, around 45,000 passengers are carried every day. The maximum speed of the vehicles is 65 km / h (for comparison: the Shōnan Monorail , which opened in 1970, is 75 km / h). In the rush hour , every six minutes is run, otherwise every quarter or half hour.
