The Chicago Board Options Exchange ( CBOE ), headquartered in Chicago is one of the world's biggest Options - exchanges with an annual trade volume of over one billion contracts. CBOE offers options on over 2,200 companies, 22 stock indices and 140 exchange-traded funds (ETFs). It publishes the globally respected CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) daily , which expresses the expected fluctuation range of the US S&P 500 stock index .

The exchange is regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission and was founded in 1973.
