Chichani
The fortress Chichani ( Georgian ხიხანის ციხე ) or Chirchati ( Georgian ხირხათი ) is a medieval Georgian fortress in Adjara , in the municipality of Chulo , in the village of Seda Tchilwana .
Chichani Fortress is located in the Schalta Valley. It stands on a mountain slope of the Chichani mountain of the same name. The Chinani fortress was of great strategic importance for the Kingdom of Georgia . The only way to get into the fortress was through a track.
The safe time of building the fortress is not clear today. The majority of scholars believe that the first building on the site of today's fortress was erected in the 10th to 13th centuries. There are legends and sagas that connect the establishment with the reign of the Georgian Queen Tamar (12th century).
In the 11th to 15th centuries, Chichani was a residence of the Georgian feudal family Abusseridze.
