Chilianus Friederich

Chilianus Friederich (also Kilian Fried [e] rich ; * in the 16th century; † after 1578) was a German Lutheran clergyman and hymn poet .

life and work

In 1562 and 1563 he can be verified as a chaplain at the St. John's Church in Magdeburg , later he became a pastor there , further information about his life is not known. In his work Lessons from the Turks , published in 1567, he names himself the author of the song Oh Lord with your help appear deim people in their suffering (based on the 79th Psalm ). This, however, was published as a single print for the first time in 1546, then several times before 1567. There is also a Low German version of the song , which is attributed to Johannes Freder . Therefore, the unknown author of the Allgemeine-Deutsche-Biographie-Article suspects that Chilianus Friederich might have translated Freder's song into High German . The high German variant was later spread.

In 1572 Friederich published a catechism .
