On February 16, 1998, an Airbus A300 crashed on China Airlines Flight 676 while taking off near Taipei-Chiang Kai-shek Airport . The aircraft was on a scheduled flight of China Airlines from Denpasar to Taipei .

the accident

The pilots were making an ILS approach to runway 05L at Taipei Airport when they noticed two kilometers (1.2 NM ) from the runway threshold that the machine was approximately 1000 feet above the ILS glide path. The crew initiated a go-around maneuver 19 seconds later at an altitude of 1,450 feet. The machine's climb angle increased steadily and finally reached an angle of 42.7 degrees at an altitude of 2751 feet. At the same time, the airspeed was reduced and dropped to 45 knots, which led to a stall on the wings . The aircraft struck about 200 feet to the left of the runway and then crashed into several adjacent houses. All 196 occupants and 7 people on the ground were killed in the explosion of the machine.

Cause of accident

The investigations revealed that the accident was caused by poor coordination and delayed action by the crew in the cockpit. To take off, the pilots increased the thrust of the engines. Due to the higher thrust, the machine immediately went into a climb , the angle of which became steeper with increasing duration. The crew did not react to the events for 12 seconds, so that the speed continuously reduced and the climb angle reached a critical level.
