China Development Bank ( CDB ) ( Chinese  国家 开发 银行 , Pinyin Guójiā kāifā yínháng  - "State Development Bank ") is a state-owned company of the People's Republic of China with its headquarters in Beijing . The company was founded in 1994. The company has been headed by the Chinese politician Chen Yuan since 1998 .

The company finances, among other things, large infrastructure projects such as the Three Gorges Dam and Shanghai Pudong Airport . The government of the People's Republic of China is liable for loans from the CDB . The company employs around 3,500 people (as of the end of 2004).

China also grants loans to countries such as Venezuela , Brazil , India , Ghana and Argentina through the China Development Bank , often to secure future supplies of raw materials. Due to the high currency reserves from exports, the Export-Import Bank of China , which is also state-owned, and the CDA together were the largest lenders to developing countries with over 100 billion US dollars in 2009 and 2010, ahead of the multilateral World Bank .

The aircraft financier CDB Aviation in Dublin , founded in 2009, is a subsidiary of the finance leasing company CDB Leasing Co. Ltd (1984 to May 2008 Shenzhen Finance Leasing Co. Ltd. ) for various transport sectors.
