The Sino-Korean Friendship Tower ( kor. 우의 탑), also briefly Friendship Tower , is a monument on a hill in Moranbong Park in Pyongyang .
history
The tower was erected in October 1959 and was a gift from the People's Republic of China to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea . 1025 granite blocks were used; in 1984 the tower was increased to 30 m. The entire area takes up an area of 120,000 m² . It is intended to commemorate the Chinese soldiers who fought for the north in the Korean War (1950–1953); the number of 1025 granite blocks is said to indicate the date of the Chinese entry into the war on October 25, 1950. The tower is thus an expression of the very close ties between the two states to this day. Even today, wreaths are regularly laid by Chinese delegations .
The tower is in the Moranbong-guyŏk district on Kaeson Street.
