Chishi Island

Chishi Island (also Chisi Island ) is an island in Lake Bangweulus in Zambia . The island is almost eleven kilometers long, with the longer southern part only a few hundred meters wide - the north of the island, on the other hand, is up to four kilometers wide. Chishi is characterized by the north-east-south-west orientation of the island, which also has the north-east shore of the lake and the larger island of Mbabala . These shapes may indicate an ancient impact crater .

Since Chishi is located in the middle of Lake Bangweulus, the island is completely surrounded by water even in the dry season, in contrast to most of the other islands in the lake or the surrounding marshland . Some fishermen live in small villages on the island.
