The Chitral Gol National Park is located in the Chitral Valley in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was established in 1984. The total area covers approx. 77.5 km², making it one of the smaller national parks in the country.

The national park is known for its population of Astor screw goats ( Capra falconeri falconeri ). This subspecies has less tightly twisted horns than other forms of this species. Their population in the national park was just over 100 animals in 1970, but has now grown to 650. There is also a small occurrence of the Ladakh urial . Of these wild sheep, only 28 animals were counted in the park in 1992. Snow leopards do not appear to live permanently in the park, but do occur as irregular visitors. Wolves avoid the sanctuary because, due to the grazing restrictions, there are few domestic animals as potential prey in the park.
