Choan-Seng Song

Choan-Seng Song (Chinese: 宋泉盛; pinyin: Sòng Quánshèng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Sòng Choân-sēng) (* 1929 ) is a Taiwanese Protestant theologian.

Song studied philosophy at the National Taiwan University and theology in Edinburgh (1955–58), New York (1958–59) and Basel (1959/60) as well as at Union Theological Seminary , where he completed his doctorate in 1965 . From 1956 to 1970 he was director of the theological faculty of the Tainan Theological College, 1977 to 2004 president of the World Reformed Federation . He was Professor of Theology and Asian Culture at the Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley.

He gained notoriety in particular through the development of a contextual Asian theology that combines Christian theology with Asian religious motifs.
