The World Reformed Federation , based in Geneva, was an international community of 215 Reformed churches with a total of 75 million members in 107 countries, whose roots go back to the Reformation led by Johannes Calvin , John Knox , Ulrich Zwingli and many others in the 16th century as well as the earlier reform movements of Jan Hus and Petrus Valdes decline. Most of them are now in the southern hemisphere and testify to the gospel there. Many of them belong to the religious minority in their respective countries.

In the middle of the 19th century, the Reformed formed a majority in only three countries: Switzerland, the Netherlands and Scotland. There was a large minority in Hungary.

The World Federation was founded in 1970 in Nairobi as a merger of a Presbyterian organization founded in 1875 and a congregational world organization founded in 1891 . The last General Assemblies were held in Ottawa in 1982 , Seoul in 1989 , Debrecen in 1997 and Accra in 2004 .

The last General Secretary (General Secretary) was Setri Nyomi, President of the American theologian Pastor Dr. Clifton Kirkpatrick from the Presbyterian Church (USA) . In addition to the General Secretariat, the Geneva office had four departments: Theology Department; Cooperation and Witness Department; Department for Partnership between Women and Men; Financial department; also the communications office and the “Mission in Unity” project (in cooperation with the International Reformed John Knox Center).

The governing body was the executive committee, which included Peter Bukowski ( Reformed Federation ) from Germany .

The World Federation joined forces on June 18, 2010 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids (Michigan) with the Reformed World Council (12 million members in 25 countries) to form the World Fellowship of Reformed Churches .
