The Presbyterian Church (USA) or Presbyterian Church (USA) ( PC for short ) is a mainline Protestant church in the United States .

The church belongs to the Reformed Churches of Protestantism , whose origins lie in the Reformation by John Calvin . Presbyterians carry on the theological tradition of Scottish Reformer John Knox and the Westminster Confession . From the UK from reached the Presbyterianism in the United States.

The Church is the largest Presbyterian Church in the United States and was formed in 1983 through the reunification of the former Presbyterian Church in the United States , the southern branch of the United States Presbyterians, and the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America , the northern branch who had broken up before the US Civil War because of differences in attitudes towards slavery .

In 2017, the confederation had around 1.4 million members and 9,304 churches.

Full communion fellowship was agreed with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the Reformed Church in America (RCA) and the United Church of Christ (UCC) in the Formula of Agreement . There is also full communion with the Union of Evangelical Churches (UEK) in Germany and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) within the framework of the ecumenical partnership. At the national level, the Church is a member of the US National Council of Churches and the Churches Uniting in Christ communion ; internationally it belongs to the World Council of Churches and the World Fellowship of Reformed Churches .

Men and women are ordained in the PC (USA) . The blessing of same-sex couples has been possible since 2000 and same-sex couples have also been able to marry since 2014 .
