The cholera cross in Weißenkirchen in der Wachau was erected to commemorate the sparing of the place from cholera . It is located in the Grubbachgraben at an altitude of 270 m.

The sign attached to the cross bears the inscription: Erected by the believing population of Weissenkirchen in 1863 under Pastor Josef Stem out of gratitude and in honor of Christ the Redeemer .

In 1866 the Austro-Prussian War broke out in which large parts of Lower Austria were ravaged by cholera. Cholera was brought in by the Prussian soldiers and spread along the marching routes. In popular belief, the view that Weißenkirchen was spared from cholera by the previously erected cross soon established itself.
