from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chonchu - The Heir of the Devil's Stone ( ko. 천추 Chunchu ) is the German title of a Manhwa series by the author Sung-Jae Kim and illustrator Byung-Jin Kim .

action

Chonchu, a young warrior and outsider who has become tough due to his cruel fate, has retained a touch of humanity for himself in a realm of fighting tribes despite all the cruelty. He is the son of Taemangniji, king of the Yemaek. According to a prophecy, Taemangniji's son is the result of evil and will lead his people to perdition. Therefore the two sons of Taemangnij were tested by the priests with the devil stone. But the older brother, Ulpasso, rams the stone into Chonchu's chest in an unobserved moment, so that it is banished to the Mirmidon.

Chonchu grew up as a warrior under harsh and cruel conditions. Marked by the devil's stone in his chest, he encounters rejection, humiliation and abuse almost everywhere.

Publications

The series was published by Haksan Publishing from 2000 in South Korea . In 2004 it was discontinued unfinished after 15 volumes. The work has been translated into English, French and Polish.

From May 2007 to May 2010 Chonchu of Tokyopop published in Germany. All 15 volumes were published under the title Chonchu - The Heir of the Devil's Stone .

reception

The Manhwa was named "Manhwa of the Year" ( 오늘 의 우리 만화상 ) in 2003 by the South Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism .

According to Splashcomics, the Manhwa is narrated densely, but hardly rich in content and so the plot hardly progresses. The artwork pleases the reader and is more western oriented, reminds me of series like Berserk or 20th Century Boys . According to Buchwurm, the story is told bloody and not suitable for the recommended readership from 15 years. But the plot offers surprises and always new twists. The main character also questions his actions, almost falling into melancholy, and the character profiles are increasingly sharply developed.
