From the beginning, Bergstrand concentrated on astrometry , and here especially on the investigation of photographic recordings to measure stellar parallax . He used the movements of the Uranus moons in their orbits to determine the period of rotation and the equatorial flattening of the planet. He also examined the sun's corona , drawing on photographs taken during the expedition on the occasion of the solar eclipse of August 21, 1914. In 1924 he became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences . Since 1938 he was a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences .
