Chris Bell (* 1960 in Holyhead , Wales) is a Welsh-New Zealand writer.

Life

Bell carried out various activities in Great Britain and Germany: he was the editor and co-author of a music magazine, also worked as a songwriter and musician and was at times messenger for a record company.

In 1996 he published The Bumper Book of Lies , a collection of short stories some of which had previously appeared in magazines including The Third Alternative, Grotesque, The Heidelberg Review, Transversions, Not One of Us and Takahe . His short story The Cruel Countess appeared in the anthology The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror (10th Annual Edition) , where it was described as an impressive debut.

Bell's first novel Liquidambar (2003) won the 2004 "Search for a Great Read" competition hosted by UKA Press. It is a surreal exploration of the crime films and junk notebooks of the 1940s, inspired by the pictures of Edward Hopper .

Bell published a commemorative publication in 2005 at a conference to mark the 80th birthday of the novelist Russell Hoban . The brochure contained contributions from various admirers and collaborators of the author, including Glenda Jackson , Andrew Davies, and Sir Harrison Birtwistle .

Bell currently lives and works in Auckland , New Zealand and is a permanent employee of the New Zealand Blogging Corporation.

Fonts

Several works have since appeared as e-books. There is a German translation of the short story "The Cruel Countess". It was published as an e-book in 2012 under the title Die cruusame Gräfin .
