Chris Haughton

Chris Haughton (* 1978 in Ireland ) is an Irish illustrator and author .

Life

Haughton grew up in Dublin . After graduating from school, he traveled the world and worked to earn a living in a wide variety of industries, for example as a waiter in San Francisco and as a language teacher for toddlers in Hong Kong . He started working as an illustrator in Hong Kong, but spent a considerable amount of time in India and Nepal . In Nepal he got to know the fair trade project , which he has supported since 2007 through his work for the British organization People Tree .

Haughton is very often in Nepal, where he and others founded the offshoot of Pecha Kucha in Kathmandu in the winter of 2010/2011 . He was also one of the co-founders of the fair trade company NODE in Nepal in 2011 , whose products include hand-knotted carpets in addition to bags and clothing, for which he is contributing designs. An exhibition in the London Design Museum in 2012 had some sales successes.

Haughton has been a full-time illustrator for years. His customers are mostly magazines and advertising agencies. The first of his four children's picture books so far appeared in Korean and was completed by the author in Seoul ; further editions in Europe and North America appeared in English, French and German. Haughton's picture books have received multiple awards.
