Locomotion is a business simulation developed by Chris Sawyer and published by Atari in September 2004 . The aim is to achieve maximum profit by moving cargo between cities and various industries using different modes of transport. This includes u. a. Railways, road vehicles, ships and planes are available. Locomotion is taking up the game idea of the Transport Tycoon, also developed by Chris Sawyer , without being its official successor.
Locomotion is based on the technical basis of the successful RollerCoaster Tycoon and primarily uses its construction system, which is much more flexible than Transport Tycoon , which enables the construction of almost any structured, intersecting tunnels and bridges up to elevated railway systems.

According to his own statement, Chris Sawyer developed Locomotion , like Transport Tycoon , with a three-man team. It was designed from the start as an inexpensive "low budget" game. The game was unable to build on the commercial success of its predecessor; it still enjoys a loyal fan base to this day.
As for Transport Tycoon, various unofficial extensions such as new vehicles, buildings, industries, freight types or additional traffic routes are also available for Locomotion on various fan pages.
Differences to "Transport Tycoon"
Locomotion partially simplifies the gameplay of Transport Tycoon. The operation, for example the creation of timetables , has been simplified. The graphic is much more detailed, but still in the tried and tested isometric perspective .
