history

The Christ the King Church is one of two churches in the city. It was donated by the BASF ammonia plant in Leuna . When the ammonia works were built, many people moved to Leuna, which is what made Leuna a city. The churches of the localities that were incorporated were no longer sufficient for the population. The company founded a Catholic and a Protestant church. The Catholic Church was built in 1930 in the style of New Building , the architect was Bernhard Lippsmeier. The church replaced a makeshift church barrack. The church was badly damaged in the air raids on the Leunawerke in 1944 and 1945 and was rebuilt with a flatter roof after the war.

The exterior of the church is simple, but is loosened up by three figures. These figures are Christ , Peter and Paul , made by the artist Hildegard Wiegel .
