Christa Sturm

Christa Hedwig Sturm (born May 11, 1966 in Eppelborn , Saarland ) is a German art educator, art historian and artist.

Life

From 1987 to 2002 Sturm took part in drawing and painting courses at the Académie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels and studied painting with Bodo Baumgarten and performance art with Ulrike Rosenbach at the Saarbrücken University of Fine Arts . In 2002 she completed her studies in art history at Saarland University with a doctorate.

Since the early 1990s she has occasionally worked as a journalist for SWR and SR. In the early 2000s she was a news correspondent at the ddp news agency . From 2000 to 2002 she was on the board of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Rhineland-Palatinate responsible for media art, was in the guide team of documenta 11 under Okwui Enwezor and from 2011 to 2013 assistant to President Dieter Rehm of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. As an art pedagogue with a 2nd state examination in Koblenz, Sturm was a lecturer in performance and play at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich for several years. From 2017 to 2020 she was in charge of the professorship “Art. Teaching” with a focus on “Art Education” and was in charge of the “Art. Teaching” course at the Braunschweig University of Art. Her scientific work in art education deals with the topics of "art + brain", performative approaches in art education and gender issues. The art history focus is on the art of the 20th century, especially in Spain.

In 2015, Sturm founded the art direction "Photoetry", in which photography and poetry are created in close cooperation. Topics are historical-local events such as personal approaches in “radical subjectivity” (Gregor Schiegl, SZ 2016). She took part in numerous exhibitions and performance performances, mainly in Germany and other European countries.

She lives and works in Wiesbaden.
