The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Christ ( Russian Спасо-Преображенский собор , transcribed Spaso-Preobrazhensky sobor ) is a Russian Orthodox cathedral located in Abakan in southern Siberia and the bishopric of the Abakan and Khakassia eparchy .

The cathedral was built from 1999 to 2005 based on a design by the architect Alexei Krylov. The cathedral was consecrated on August 19, 2005 .

The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Christ has seven domes - five of them above the cubic church building, one above the apse , and another crowns the bell tower. The cathedral consists of two worship rooms: the lower church, which is subject to the patronage of the new martyrs (i.e. priests who were killed or subjected to repression under Soviet rule and canonized from 1992); the upper church is dedicated to the transfiguration of Christ . The cathedral can accommodate more than 1000 visitors. The height of the bell tower without the cross is 49.2 m. The ringing consists of twelve bells, the largest bell weighs 5670 kg.
