Christiaan Huygens Medal
The Christiaan Huygens Medal is a science award named after Christiaan Huygens , awarded by the Geosciences Instrumentation and Data Systems department within the European Geosciences Union to researchers with merits in the department's research focus.
organization
With the Christiaan Huygens Medal are from the Department of Geosciences Instrumentation and Data Systems (GI) to German geoscientific instrumentation and data systems , the French non-profit organization Union européenne of Geosciences , commonly known as European Geosciences Union excellent (EGU), persons which represent innovations, developments and discoveries in the central area of responsibility of the department or a series of work that builds on one another to achieve significant progress. The GI department researches high-precision measuring devices for the geosciences, mathematical constructs for evaluating the measurement data and drawing conclusions about invisible peculiarities and processes.
Since 2008, the Christiaan Huygens Medal has been awarded at the EGU's annual meeting.
No medal was awarded between 2012 and 2014.
The design of the medal was created by József Kótai for the EGU and shows a portrait relief by Christiaan Huygens on the picture side.
