Christian Kummer SJ (born June 16, 1945 in Einzendobl , parish Eging am See ) is a German biologist , philosopher and Jesuit . He is a professor emeritus at the Munich University of Philosophy .

Life

Christian Kummer was born in Lower Bavaria and graduated from high school in Ellwangen (Jagst) in 1964. From 1966 to 1972 he studied philosophy and theology at the religious colleges in Pullach and Frankfurt am Main. From 1972 to 1977 he studied biology at the University of Munich . Until 1983, he studied for a doctorate at the University of Philosophy in Munich.

In 1996, Kummer received his habilitation in philosophy. Since 1983 he has taught at the University of Philosophy in Munich, became a lecturer in 1987, associate professor in 1997 and full professor in 2002. He retired in 2013 . He dedicated his farewell lecture on July 2, 2013 to the topic of church and science. Against the neglect of a tense relationship .

Kummer is the head of the institute for scientific border questions to philosophy and theology.

Kummer has been a member of the Jesuit Order since 1964 and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1973.

His main research interests are the philosophy of organismic development: development of germs , origin of life, holistic theory of the organism. He also deals with bioethics: the beginning of human life, stem cell research. Further topics are the relationship between evolution and creation and the criticism of creationism .
