The Christ statue on Cerro El Picacho

The Christ of Picacho ( Spanish : El Cristo del Picacho ) is a 20 meter high statue of Christ on the Cerro El Picacho above the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa . It was built in 1997 and inaugurated in January 1998. It was designed by the sculptor Mario Zamora Alcantara. It stands on a concrete base around 12 meters high and weighs around 2,500 tons. Thanks to the lighting, it can be seen from almost every point in the capital at night. Conversely, you have a breathtaking view of the city from Cerro El Picacho (1327 m above sea level). The hill is part of the El Picacho National Park (also: United Nations Park), where there is also a small zoo with native species.
