The Protestant Christ Church is located in Rösrather district Forsbach on a hill.

Church building association

A church building association was set up in November 1955 to financially support the construction work. The subsequent colored glazing of the side windows in 1960 was mainly financed by funds from the church building association. The association was dissolved in 1980.

Building history

The Christ Church is the first church that the Forsbach architect Horst Welsch designed. The Kleineichener Kreuzkirche and the Rösrath Reconciliation Church were also built under his planning. Exposed concrete was mainly used as the material for the load-bearing parts. At first glance, the construction seems quite simple. The walls impress with their aerated concrete blocks, which are neatly built on the outside and inside.

The parish fair on December 23, 1956 finally brought the Forsbach Protestant Christians their "church in the village". They used to have to go to the mother church in Volberg (Hoffnungsthal). To do this, they used the Kirchweg , a street name in Forsbach that still exists today. For a while, the old school in Forsbach also served as a meeting room for church services. In 1956 Forsbach belonged to the parish of Volberg. The pastor was Friedrich Gerhard Venderbosch. From 1959 to 2007 Forsbach, Kleineichen and Rösrath formed their own further parish. Since 2007 they have all been reunited in one parish.

The four bells were consecrated on December 15, 1957. They ring at 7 a.m., 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays; Sundays and public holidays for church services. The Becker organ with its 13 registers and 2 manuals has 1170 pipes.

The building complex was supplemented in 1982 by a spacious community center. The architect was again Horst Welsch. The lower floor is used for child and youth work. A large hall is available for meetings on the upper floor.

Parabolic window

In 1956 the altar, baptismal font and organ were missing. And the windows only had colorless single glazing. In 1959 the Cologne artist Elfriede Fulda created the parabolic window behind the altar area on the east side. The seventh day of creation is depicted: humans surrounded by flora and fauna.
