Evangelical Reconciliation Church in Rösrath

The Protestant Reconciliation Church is located in the center of Rösrath .

history

The Protestant community of Volberg made the property available as early as 1959 . The groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 24, 1966. The architect, like the Christ Church in Forsbach and the Kreuzkirche in Kleineichen, was Horst Welsch. His design of a nave resembles a parabola in plan.

About 2500 Protestants were counted in Rösrath-Mid-1967 at the time of the inauguration of the church. At that time Rösrath-Mitte belonged to the parish of Forsbach. The parish of Forsbach was spun off from the Protestant community of Volberg in 1959 and included the districts of Forsbach, Rösrath-Mitte and Kleineichen. In 1983 the name changed to: "Evangelical Church Community Forsbach-Rösrath". Since November 1, 2007, all Protestant churches in the Rösrath urban area have been reunited. The name is now: "Evangelical Community Volberg-Forsbach-Rösrath".

The elaborate glazing of the church windows did not take place until 1977. The bell tower is popularly known as the “soul drill” because of its twisted tip.

Special design

Church of Reconciliation - east side

The church is not far from Sülztalplatz in the center of Rösrath. However, it can hardly be seen from the main street. The entrance to the church on the west side presents itself to the visitor in a straight, rectangular facade. The architectural peculiarity of this church is only revealed to the viewer from the east side. The parabolic rounding is reminiscent of a ship's bow.

Naming

The naming “Church of Reconciliation” is attributed, among other things, to the fact that the first ecumenical movement that began with the Second Vatican Council sought reconciliation between the denominations.
