Chromopertubation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As chromopertubation refers to a method for the study of tubal patency for suspected infertility in women. It is currently the standard procedure in this area.

execution

As part of a laparoscopy , a blue dye solution ( methylene blue , indigo carmine ) is introduced into the uterine cavity via an adapter . The blue dye solution flows through the fallopian tubes into the abdominal cavity and is visible during the laparoscopy.

If the fallopian tube fills with the dye solution but does not flow away, there is a distal closure of the fallopian tube away from the uterus . If there is no filling, there may be a blockage in a part of the fallopian tube near the uterus, but there may also be a convulsive reaction.

advantages

The laparoscopy with a blue sample is the most precise method of examining the organs and identifying possible problems such as malformations of the uterus , adhesions , blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis or myomas . Slight adhesions inside a fallopian tube can already be loosened by the flow of the blue solution. If necessary, other findings can also be treated as part of the laparoscopy.

disadvantage

The laparoscopy requires anesthesia . There is a risk of procedural complications such as bleeding or injury to abdominal organs. No certainty can be gained about the functionality of the fallopian tubes.

Alternatives

Today, hystero-contrast salpingography is an alternative to chromopertubation by laparoscopy. With the help of a contrast agent, it can be seen in the ultrasound image whether and how the contrast agent flows through the fallopian tubes . It has practically completely replaced the previously common hysterosalpingography (HSG) as an X-ray examination . However, endometriosis and adhesions cannot be adequately diagnosed with it.
