Chronopharmacology

Chronopharmacology is a research focus in pharmacology and studies periodically recurring and time-predictable fluctuations in the effects and pharmacokinetics of drugs in humans and animals. These fluctuations arise u. a. by biorhythmic and meteorological influences on the organism and can influence the blood level of drugs ( chronopharmacokinetics ) or the sensitivity of the target organs ( chronopharmacodynamics ).

Chronopharmacology plays u. a. plays a practical role in beta blockers , chemotherapy drugs , cortisone preparations and opiates and leads to time-controlled intake recommendations for a number of drugs.
