Antoni Chruściel
Antoni Chruściel ( [antɔɲi xruɕt͡ɕel] , * 16th June 1895 in Gniewczyna Łańcucka today Subcarpathian Province ; † the 30th November 1960 in Washington, DC , USA ) using the pseudonym "Monter" and "Nurt" , commander was the area of Warsaw the Polish Home Army ( Armia Krajowa or AK) and Commander in Chief in the Warsaw Uprising .
He was under 50,000 soldiers. When the uprising failed, he and 9,000 soldiers were taken prisoner by Germany. After German captivity, he went into British and then American exile. The communist government of Poland revoked his citizenship in 1946.
In 2004, on the occasion of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, the remains of him and his wife were transferred to the Warsaw Powązki Cemetery .
