The Cinder Spur (English for ash spur ) is a narrow mountain ridge on the south coast of King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It extends 2.5 km west of Low Head into Legru Bay .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it that way in 1963 because it consists primarily of volcanic ash .
