Circle in the Sand is a song by Belinda Carlisle from the year 1987 , which was written by Rick Nowels and Ellen Shipley. It was included on the album Heaven on Earth and was released as a single in April 1988.

history

The song first appeared on the demo recordings for the Lost Heaven album . There you could hear the drum rhythm, accompanied by a catchy keyboard melody , in addition to light bass tones . During the production of the album, Thomas Dolby contributed a new melody, which he combined with the bass. Furthermore, guitars were also used this time, but they only served to add additional sound effects to the keyboard melody. The website allmusic compared these combined sound effects with songs by the Shangri-Las , where this effect is particularly evident in Remember (Walking in the Sand) .

Music video

The music video was directed by Peter Care. It shows various beach scenes with Carlisle singing the song in the background. The music video should serve to clarify the lyrical content of the song. Some scenes focus on key words in the lyrics, such as "cold wind", "tide moves in" and "waves crash" . As video effects you can see pictures of Carlisle in some scenes, gliding through the beach landscape and being washed over by waves in the water. This effect is supposed to represent a collage . The music video was released by MCA in March 1988.
