Circuit Cellar was founded in 1988 by the well-known US engineer Steve Ciarcia.
Circuit Cellar has been part of the internationally active Dutch media group Elektor International Media , which is based in Limbricht in southern Limburg, since December 2009 . Their Aachen-based subsidiary Elektor-Verlag GmbH is the publisher of the German-language electronics magazine Elektor .
