Cirplus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cirplus is a startup platform founded at the end of 2018 with the aim of improving the reuse of used plastic as a raw material for new production.

founding

The platform was founded by Christian Schiller and Volkan Bilici and was launched in early April 2019 as a digital trading platform for used plastic. Plastics processors enter their purchase requests in the platform's search mask and Cirplus searches for suitable suppliers in the recycling industry.

background

Germany is considered to be the recycling world champion, since consumers pre-sort paper and cardboard into the blue bin, organic waste into the brown bin and packaging into the yellow sack . According to the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), over 80 percent of glass and paper is recycled, while plastic packaging waste is still almost half recycled. In 2004, for example, Germany collected around 2.1 million tons of glass, separated by color, as white, brown and green glass. By 2018 it was almost 90% that was recycled.

However, in Germany, plastic packaging is considered recycled from the moment it arrives at a sorting facility. But since most of the plastic packaging is burned or exported abroad, the real recycling rate in Germany is much lower.

The new Packaging Act, which came into force on January 1, 2019, has a recycling rate of 58.5 percent for plastics from packaging waste instead of the previous 36 percent, and from 2021 even 63 percent.
