Cistercium (magazine)

Cistercium is a scientific journal of the Trappist Order . It was founded in 1941 and was published quarterly from 1949 to 2007. It has been published in Spanish every six months since 2008.

The magazine is sponsored by the Spanish Trappist Congregation , the management is entrusted to the Cantabrian Abbey of Santa María de Viaceli . Francesco R. de Pascual is currently the director. Topics covered include the history, art and spirituality of monasticism and its traditions; in addition, other general mystical-contemplative and religious topics and aspects are dealt with. Current research focuses on the life of the Christian mystic and Trappist father Thomas Merton and the 19 martyrs of Viaceli who perished during the Spanish Civil War .

The magazine's homepage offers a compendium of the most important articles. A general index of all editions up to 2008 was also published.
