Example of a rock formed by erosion in Ciudad Encantada

The Ciudad Encantada ( Spanish for "enchanted city") is a limestone landscape in a large pine forest in the highlands near the Spanish city of Cuenca and the Júcar .

The rock formations form a labyrinth of rock bridges, more or less wide paths and open spaces. The inhabitants of the area gave the rocks animal and material names according to their shapes. Geographically, the landscape dates from the Mesozoic .

In 1929 Ciudad Encantada was added to the Spanish National List of Important Places.

Orientation in the area is relatively easy, as all places and paths are signposted.
