Clarence Town
Clarence Town is a settlement in the Bahamas . It is located on Long Island and has a population of 86 (2010).
The area was settled around 1800, when cotton fields were planted with slaves .
Infrastructure
In Clarence Town there is a marina , two restaurants and a public pier where a post ship from Nassau docks every week to handle the island's post station. There is also a small shop, a gas station, a pub and medical care at any time of the day or night. The settlement also has a police station and a community center.
The place lives from tourism and, thanks to the existing infrastructure, is a popular meeting place for skippers , anglers and divers .
Clarence Town can mainly be reached by sea, but Deadman's Cay Airport , 17 km to the north, also allows arrival by plane.
Attractions
The two churches, which are identical to their twin towers, were designed by John Hawes . One of the churches is an Episcopal Church , built in 1884 and called St. Paul's Anglican Church. The name of the other church is St. Peter and Paul. It is a Roman Catholic church that was completed in 1947 and whose tower can be used as a lookout point.
To the west of Clarence Town is Dean's Blue Hole , which is by far the deepest Blue Hole in the world at 202 m .
