The name was used by Edmund Spenser in his poem The Faerie Queene (in the form Claribell ) and by William Shakespeare in his drama The Tempest (1611). Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote a poem called Claribel (1830).
Variants are Clare and Clarinda.
