Classic Line

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Classic Line from Sage is an ERP software (Enterprise Resource Planning).

Development history

The software was originally developed by the KHK company and was first published in 1983. After the merger of Sage and KHK, the software was integrated into the product range of the Sage Group. The Classic Line celebrated its 25th anniversary with the 2009 version. The newer version is the Sage New Classic, which was delivered from 2011. In autumn 2016, Sage announced that the development and distribution of the Sage New Classic product will be discontinued. According to Sage, users should switch to the Sage 100 product. In December 2016, Sage announced price adjustments starting January 1, 2017 for existing maintenance and support contracts, with prices for Sage New Classic increasing by 45%.

Sales model

The sales model for the Sage Classic Line is primarily based on Sage Software distributors. As a rule, these are IT system houses that have to prove their competence at regular intervals in the course of certification tests. These authorized dealers, also known as "business partners" in technical jargon, usually organize active sales on a regional basis. Sage Software itself supports its "business partners" with marketing materials or public relations, which serve to make the Sage Software brand and the Classic Line product better known in the target area (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).

Operating modes

The Sage Classic Line scales from a single user to around a hundred competing users. Small companies that shy away from using a server have the option of using the peer-2-peer operating mode with several clients to access the Sage Classic Line database at the same time. A special database service is available for installations that require higher scalability and security with regard to controlled file access, which serves as an intermediate layer between the connected clients and the database. The use of Terminal Services is also possible with the Sage Classic Line. Sales partners of the Sage Classic Line have been in the foreground since 2008, offering the operation of the software in a data center that is outsourced from the end customer's point of view. Access is via the aforementioned Terminal Services, which are part of the Microsoft Windows Server.
