Claus Hüppe

Claus Hüppe (born May 13, 1924 - December 12, 2009 ) was a German entrepreneur and patron.

Life

Claus Hüppe attended the Schloss Salem boarding school . After serving in the war and being a prisoner of war, he joined the family business ( HÜPPE ) in 1945 , which was founded in 1889 as a saddlery and upholstery shop. He expanded it to one of the market leaders in the fields of blinds , folding doors , partitions , awnings and shower enclosures . In 1980 he sold the company and withdrew from it in 1982. From 1986 to 2001 he was a member of the supervisory board of the Oldenburgische Landesbank . As chairman of the economic association “Der Kleine Kreis” he was internationally active for the district.

Claus Hüppe and his wife Eva-Maria, with whom he had been married since 1959, were involved in a variety of social commitments, such as the Claus Hüppe Foundation for the promotion of culture and social issues. The Claus Hüppe Foundation supports the Horst Janssen Museum and is the donor of the Horst Janssen Graphic Prize. In 1995 he acquired the Janssen collection of the Hamburg couple Carin and Carl Vogel for 1.5 million DM as the basis. Later he also made a significant contribution to the construction of the museum. Among other things, he was the initiator of the Blendinger scholarships at the Schloss Salem School.

In 2005 he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit for his diverse social commitment .
