The Clemensschule is a municipal Catholic elementary school in Hiltrup , the largest district of Münster . The name of the school is based on the Clemens church and the newer St. Clement's church in the same neighborhood. In 2008 the school was awarded the “Individual Support Seal of Approval”. The school has been run by Barbara Prattki since 2009. In the school year 2012/2013 173 pupils were taught by 14 teachers.

history

The Clemensschule was opened in 1904 as a boys' school with two classrooms on Clemensstrasse. In 1911 the school was expanded to four and in 1925 to eight classrooms. The school had to close from February 6, 1944 to January 30, 1946, as foreign workers from the Todt Organization first lived in the school until March 29, 1945 . After American troops moved into Hiltrup, they lived in the school until it reopened.

In 1951, after the summer holidays, classes began in a new school building on Kardinalstrasse. The new building was expanded in 1958. Since 1968, the Clemenschule has been an independent elementary school through the separation of the elementary and secondary schools. After various outsourcing of classes due to the increasing number of pupils, the Clemens School was assigned the Paul Gerhardt School building on Bodelschwinghstraße in December 1973. In 1995 new classrooms were created at this address by an extension building. In 2004 the school celebrated its 100th anniversary. In 2008, a new all-day area was opened together with the Paul Gerhardt School.

Projects and awards

Since 1983 the Clement School has been sponsoring a kindergarten in Bangalore, which is run by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus . In 1988 the project day “School with a difference” was introduced. The project week “My body belongs to me” was held for the first time in 1999 to support the gender-specific upbringing of boys and girls.

The school is very committed to environmental protection. In 1997 the city of Münster turned the Clemen School into an environmental school. After 2002 the school achieved this status at European level. In the following year the school took part in the state project world-energy-school "and became the world's environmental school. Since 2004 there has been a photovoltaic system on the school roof. In 2005, the Clemensschule won second prize in the" Energy School NRW "competition organized by the Energy Agency NRW In 2008 the school will become “School of the Future” as part of Agenda 21. In 2010, an Environment Day was held in the Clemens School.

Support association

A registered association for the support of the Clemens School has existed since 1979. This should contribute to improving working conditions, support the school in their work and the students in social aspects, and promote cooperation between the school, parents and friends of the school.
