Cleobury Mortimer and Ditton Priors Light Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cleobury Mortimer and Ditton Priors Light Railway was a British railway company based in Shropshire in the West Midlands of England. The company was created on the basis of the Light Railways Act on May 23, 1901 to build a 19-kilometer route from Cleobury Mortimer to Ditton Priors . On July 19, 1908, the line was opened for freight and November 20, 1908 for passenger traffic. At Cleobury Mortimer there was a connection to the Great Western Railway line from Tenbury to Bewdley .

On January 1, 1922, the company was taken over by the GWR. On September 26, 1938, passenger traffic was stopped. With effect from May 1, 1957, the Royal Navy took over the route because there was an arms depot in Ditton Priors. When this was shut down, the railway was also stopped on April 16, 1965.

The company owned two three-axle tank locomotives, which were later given numbers 28 and 29 by the GWR.
