Clipboard manager
Clipboard managers are computer programs that extend the functionality of the clipboard of an operating system . These usually only offer a single storage option for storage, which is overwritten after another "Copy" action. The main task of a clipboard manager is to store cached data in such a way that the data can be used in a later and more versatile manner.
Clipboard managers access the copy and paste functions and enlarge their functional spectrum. These functions can be:
- Multiple storage spaces and the ability to merge, separate and edit them
- Selection of a special memory location for the "Cut" or "Copy" actions
- Selection of a special memory location for the "Insert" action
- Special handling of data such as formatted text, tables, data objects, media files and URLs
- Storing copied data in a longer-term alternative storage location
- Indexing or tagging of data on the clipboard
- Search in the cache
- Connection to online services and provision on them
- Transparent encryption and decryption of stored data
Finally, such an application can also be used for software that does not support copying or pasting.
