CloneDVD is a program for Windows that copies film DVDs and optionally also recompresses the films. You can choose whether only parts of the DVD (e.g. the main film) or the entire DVD should be copied. Features such as languages or subtitles can also be removed in order to reduce the movie files to a selected size. This is usually necessary because there is often much more material on pressed DVDs than a standard DVD-5 blank can hold.

CloneDVD works with almost all DVD drives, but to comply with the copyright laws of most EU countries, it cannot copy copy-protected movie DVDs. For this reason, the program can be legally distributed in Germany and many other countries. With the help of the additional software AnyDVD, it is also possible to copy protected films.

The program is developed and distributed by the Swiss company Elaborate Bytes AG. The program can also be purchased from the SlySoft website . The latter has also been selling a modified version called CloneDVD Mobile since the beginning of 2006 , which was specially developed for converting into formats for mobile devices (e.g. iPod Video or Playstation Portable ).
