Coordinates: 50 ° 58 '  N , 6 ° 58'  E The Clouth Quartier is a new district in the Cologne district of Nippes , which will be built by 2021 on the site of the former Clouth Gummiwerke AG and Land- und Seekabelwerke AG .

Emergence

After the Clouth Gummiwerke was shut down in 2005, a development plan became legally binding after an urban planning competition was held in 2009. The demolition and renovation of the site lasted until 2013. The first apartments were occupied in December 2015. Currently (July 2019) around 600 of the planned 1200 apartments have been completed. In addition to the apartments, space is also being built for around 500 workplaces.

Building communities

In addition to the development of the Clouth Quartier with classic investor building projects and the construction of rent-bound living space by housing associations, several building plots in the Clouth Quartier in the center of the site were awarded to a total of ten building cooperatives , which were selected from 25 applications. In the first phase, eight groups got a chance to build a total of eight houses with around 100 apartments on the streets Am Walzwerk , Auf dem Stahlseil and Kautschukstraße in 2016 and 2017. As part of a follow-up procedure, two further building associations were awarded the contract for the property on the corner of Xantener Strasse and Josefine-Clouth-Strasse at the end of 2016 .

Trivia

On May 2, 2020, the television program Mitternachtsspitzen was not broadcast from the old waiting room due to the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic , but from a community garden of several houses in the Clouth quarter.
