The Club 1018 association is an Austrian association that was formed in 2009 from a merger of active railway workers and train drivers to get the last ÖBB 1018 series electric locomotive that can be reworked in Austria and subsequently other electric locomotives before scrapping or storage save.

history

Club locomotive 1040.013-3 in Vienna Erdbergerlände station

Starting with the takeover of 1018.005 in the spring of 2009 in the association's inventory, and the necessary research in order to be able to carry out the most precise processing possible, the possibility and the desire arose to save further vehicles from being parked.

In autumn 2010, the 1040.013 was transferred from the nostalgic location Selzthal to Vienna and incorporated into the club's inventory, followed a year later by the 4061.13 baggage car, in spring 2012 the 1010.003 and in December 2015 the 1010.010, all of which were in active special train service with the ÖBB ErlebnisBahn was in operation and has therefore been in continuous operation since its delivery in 1958, 1955 and 1956.

With the current stock of locomotives, the association is able to give an overview of the Austrian history of the development of light freight and express trains to large, powerful express locomotives.

With one exception, the locomotives are all in their respective, external original condition at the time of their decommissioning. The 1010.010 was dismantled in 2007 by employees of Club 1018 in the state of "fir green with belly, impeller and metal numbers". The locomotives are approved for all types of use in the ÖBB network and are continuously updated to reflect the current state of the art in the field of radio and train protection.

aims

The aim of the association is to ensure the operability of electric locomotives that are about to be decommissioned and are of historical value in order to preserve these contemporary witnesses of Austrian railway technology for the future.

In the medium term, the historic locomotive owned by the association, the 1018.05, which is currently not ready to run, is to be refurbished and put into operation before nostalgic trains. In addition to a thorough overhaul of all chassis parts, the overhaul also includes repainting, the installation of GSM-R train radio and the PZB90 train protection system .

In the long term, there are other "salvage-worthy" objects, whereby the association is primarily concerned with keeping the current vehicles in working order and continuously bringing them up to the state of the art. Inoperable stand objects can already be seen in Austrian collections, apart from the 4061 luggage railcar, which is a unique piece.
