(18556) Battiato is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on February 7, 1997 by the Italian astronomers Piero Sicoli and Francesco Manca at the Osservatorio Astronomico Sormano ( IAU code 587) in Sormano .
The asteroid was named after the Italian cantautore and director Franco Battiato (* 1945), who is an honorary member of the Associazione Astrofili Ionico-Etnei .
