Francesco Manca (* 1966 in Milan ) is an Italian astronomer and asteroid discoverer at the Osservatorio Astronomico Sormano ( IAU code 587) with experience in the observation and search of near-earth objects (NEO) at professional observatories in Arizona. The non-observational activity is also the calculation of the approach to the earth of asteroids and comets, connected with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory NASA, which mainly studies the NEOs and identifies their orbits. Manca is a member of SIMCA (Società Italiana di Meccanica Celeste e Astrodinamica) and Spaceguard Foundation and writes articles for specialist journals. His professional activity is dedicated to the measuring systems, which and for a precise positioning on the large optical telescopes or radio telescopes such as VLT Very Large Telescope , ALMA Atacama Large Millimeter Array , E-ELT European Extremely Large Telescope , ASTRI (Astrophysics with mirrors to Technology Replicant Italian) , NEOSTEL (Fly Eye telescope for ESA), DAG (Turkish for Eastern Anatolia Observatory) and LBT Large Binocular Telescope can be installed as well as used in applications in space.

The asteroid (15460) Manca was named after him.
