(12405) Nespoli is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 15, 1995 by the Italian astronomers Valter Giuliani and Francesco Manca at the Osservatorio Astronomico Sormano ( IAU code 587) in Sormano .
The asteroid was named after the Italian engineer and astronaut Paolo Nespoli (* 1957), who worked on the design of the Tethered Satellite System from 1987 and, as the second Italian mission specialist, worked on the expansion of the ISS during his shuttle flight on board the Discovery in 2007 .
