Clydesdale was a whiskey distillery in Wishaw , North Lanarkshire , Scotland . The brandy produced was therefore assigned to the Lowlands whiskey region .

The distillery was founded in 1825 by Robert Montgomery, 8th Lord of Belhaven under the name Wishaw . In the first few years it was leased out several times and finally sold to Patrick Chalmers in 1848 . After Chalmers' death in 1855 the business was idle for several years and was then resumed by his son-in-law J. Munroe Mackenzie under the name Clydesdale . In 1914 the distillery was one of the five founding members of Scottish Malt Distillers . These went to Distillery Company Ltd. in 1919 . ( DCL ), which closed operations in the same year. The distillery's bonded warehouse continued to be used for several years.

When Alfred Barnard visited the distillery on his major whiskey tour in 1885, it had an annual production capacity of 170,000  gallons . There were four pot stills with capacities of 5500, 3500, 2650 and 1000 gallons, respectively. Which are coarse or fine burn bubbles are not specified.
