The Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE, dt. Coalition of progressive voters ) is a local political party in the Canadian city of Vancouver . It was founded in 1968 when some center-left groups (including the New Democratic Party and the Communist Party ) banded together to form a stronger opposition to the center-right Non-Partisan Association . COPE is generally committed to the goals of social democracy .

COPE has so far provided a mayor : in the local elections in 2002, the party won a majority in the city council and Larry Campbell was elected mayor. Campbell, who was politically centered, fell out with the left-wing members of COPE and left the party in 2005. Together with three city council members, he founded Vision Vancouver in 2005 .
